South Butte Parlor was named for the “South Buttes”. The picture on the seal shows a mountain and a fence. The mountain is South Butte, which is part of the Sutter Buttes. The fence resembles the rock fences built by Indians years ago. Today these fences can still be seen when driving around and through the “Buttes”. The town of Sutter is located at the southeast base of the Sutter Buttes, which is the smallest natural mountain range in the world, made by a volcano years ago.
