The charter of Ursula Parlor was closed thirty days after institution with a membership of thirty-three. The name Ursula, which means “she bear,” was chosen by ballot, winning over the name Minerva. Ursula Parlor instituted Subordinate Parlors until that right was surrendered to the first Grand Parlor in July of 1887.
The seal of Ursula Parlor shows Minerva standing in the foreground with the Sierra Nevada behind her and bundles of wheat to each side of her. Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and war, is shown wearing her helmet and holding her spear.
